About Us

Spartan Taekwon-Do School was founded in 2008. It started quite small with a few students some were family members of the founding Instructors. Gradually it grew in numbers and popularity with students of all ages joining and enjoying learning new skills and growing in confidence as they practised the art of Taekwon-Do.

  • ‘Tae’ – foot or leg, used for kicking, smashing and jumping
  • ‘Kwon’ – hand or fist, used for punching, striking, thrusting or blocking
  • ‘Do’  –  the Art or Way Of or Method

Taekwon-Do is a version of an ancient form of unarmed combat practised for many centuries in the orient. Taekwon-Do became perfected into its present form in Korea and is famous for its spectacular kicking techniques and in our opinion is the best kicking and punching style of the martial arts in the world today. Men, women & children can enjoy all the art, irrespective of their current level of ability & fitness.
We are an International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) based Taekwon-Do style which encompasses all aspects of Taekwon-Do, whereas the WTF Taekwon-Do style that is seen at the Olympic games only covers the sports kicking side of the art. We also concentrate on the practical self-defence and street fighting aspect of training, as we all now live in a modern and sometimes violent world.

A.C.E. Taekwon-Do is a Society for Traditional and Authentic Taekwon-Do. The Society has been established by Grand Master Paul Cutler, who studied directly under First Grand Master Rhee Ki Ha and General Choi Hong Hi, the founder of Taekwon-Do. A.C.E. Taekwon-Do is an organisation that strives to uphold the integrity and goals of General Choi Hong Hi & First Grand Master Rhee Ki Ha, which includes following the guidelines and principles set forth in the Student Oath, the Tenets of Taekwon-Do, Moral Culture and Martial Art Ethics.
A.C.E. Taekwon-Do promotes the values, practice, and teachings of Taekwon-Do, as developed by the Founder General Choi Hong Hi and carried on by the ‘best ever student of Taekwon-Do’ First Grand Master Rhee Ki Ha. A.C.E. Taekwon-Do is rich in tradition but continuously moves forward. It aims to bring all true Taekwon-Do practitioners together to follow these same guidelines. A.C.E. Taekwon-Do welcomes Taekwon-Do Schools & Instructors with our same mindset.
A.C.E. Taekwon-Do will operate in accordance with the guidelines laid out in the Encyclopaedia of Taekwon-Do by the Founder, General Choi Hong Hi prior to his passing in 2002, and furthered by the teachings of First Grand Master Rhee.

History of TKD

Taekwon-Do was founded in Seoul, South Korea, in 1955 by General Choi Hong Hi. Since its inception, many changes have been implemented to continually develop Taekwon-Do, both as a Martial Art and as a formidable form of self defence.

The early sixties saw an influx of Korean Taekwon-Do Masters into the USA and subsequently world-wide. Today in Taekwon-Do, there are two world bodies, the original International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) and the World Taekwon-Do Federation (WTF), which was founded in 1977.

Taekwon-Do was introduced into the UK in 1967 by First Grand Master Rhee Ki Ha; today many groups operate their own organisations as the popularity of Taekwon-Do grows.

A student of the ITF style of Taekwon-Do now has the chance to cross train under WTF style of Taekwon-Do and many practitioners will have competed in the Olympics of 2012.

So Why Spartans?

Here lie 300, who did their duty, a simple epitaph for one of the greatest acts of courage known to mankind. Although facing the superior forces of

Xerxes, Leonidas and his 300 Spartans at Thermphylae showed the world the meaning of Indomitable Spirit. It is shown when a courageous person and his principles are pitted against overwhelming odds.

Sparta, rose to become the ultimate superpower in the Ancient Greek world.Spartan boys were educated in a way, that emphasized their physical fitness, courage and obedience. Spartan girls’ upbringing ensured that they were healthy and strong. The Academy has been named after Spartans who were said to give everything needed for the greater good. Be brave, honourable, courageous and disciplined; characteristics that are upheld in the way in which we train in the Martial Arts.
